SEN. KONNI BURTON ISSUES STATEMENT ON LT. GOVERNOR’S CURRENT INTERIM CHARGES
Commends Lt. Governor’s focus and leadership; energized to begin working
Fort Worth, TX – Senator Konni Burton (SD-10, Tarrant County), who currently serves as ViceChairman of the Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations (VAMI), and also sits on the Committees on Criminal Justice, Higher Education, and Nominations, today issued the following statement on the current interim charges before the committees of the Texas Senate: “Lt. Governor Dan Patrick’s interim charge selections are extremely encouraging and further illustrate his commitment to building on the work we started in the last legislative session. I would like to publicly commend him and express my appreciation for his focus and leadership on a number of critically important issues facing the residents living in my district and across Texas.”
“As Vice-Chairman of VAMI, I am pleased we will invest time in better understanding the state of veteran health, specifically mental health. I am looking forward to a review on the progress of state strike force teams working to reduce the claims backlog and wait times at our veterans’ hospitals, as this is a top issue for many of my constituents.”
“I am also very encouraged to see Civil Asset Forfeiture on the list of charges that the Criminal Justice committee will consider. I have been a passionate advocate for reforming this system in order to better protect Texans’ private property rights. I have personally reached out to Chairman Whitmire to express my enthusiasm to work with him and the members of our committee on this issue, as well as my willingness to lead.”

Governor Patrick’s decision to include a charge on the ‘effectiveness and necessity’ of the state’s economic development programs is exciting, as I have long been a proponent of returning to free market principles and ending the business of picking winners and losers at the taxpayer’s expense.
