SEN. KONNI BURTON RELEASES STATEMENT ON ELECTION RESULTS
Republicans have unique opportunity to lead
Fort Worth, TX ‐ Sen. Konni Burton released the following statement on last night’s election results:
“First, I would like to congratulate President-Elect Trump for his victory. He is now faced with the difficult task of transitioning into the White House and assembling his team. I wish him luck in the weeks and months ahead, but more importantly, I pray for his wisdom and humility as Americans yearn for change in D.C.
American voters once again put their trust in Republican candidates and lawmakers, as the party retained control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The time is now for major reform and transformation of the federal government and its relationship to the states and the individual citizen.
I, along with many of my colleagues, will continue to promote and defend conservative principles in Austin just as we have in the past. It is now time that our national Republican leaders did the same. Federal overreaches into education, energy, and healthcare must be aggressively turned back. We must restore our federalist constitutional structure and rightly allow state governments to lead on issues closest to the people. Most importantly, we must secure the balance of the Supreme Court and guarantee the security of our individual rights.
As always, I will continue to represent the great people of SD10 first, and hold myself and my party accountable for our shared ideology of limited government and personal freedom. It is time to embrace this historic opportunity and bring real change to D.C..”
