AUSTIN—On January 13, 2014, the opening day of the Texas Senate, State Sen. Konni Burton of Tarrant County voted against Senate Resolution 1 (SR1) — a resolution that increases the monthly budgets for Senate offices with her first vote of the 84th Legislative Session.  Senator Burton said, “I believe that we need to stop the growth of government and resisting the temptation to increase our own budgets is the perfect place to start.”  SR1 is a housekeeping resolution that establishes the officers of the Senate, office budgets and other Senate employment related matters.

Senator Burton was one of three who voted against SR1.  The resolution passed and increases Senate Office Budgets from $38,000.00 per month to $40,000.00 per month.
