SENATOR KONNI BURTON WELCOMES DEMOCRATIC OPPONENT TO THE RACE FOR SENATE DISTRICT 10

COLLEYVILLE, TX – Upon preliminary results from tonight’s primary election, incumbent State Senator for District 10 Konni Burton released the following statement:

“I want to congratulate my opponent for narrowly defeating a ‘self-proclaimed socialist’ for the Democratic nomination for Senate District 10.

My Democrat opponent’s largest single financial contributor is a pro-abortion group that recently featured Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren at their swanky annual fund-raiser. For $25,000, you and some friends could’ve listened to Sen. Warren explain why she opposed ending abortion after five months and fought against protecting babies born alive after failed abortions.

My Democrat opponent has already been endorsed by Wendy Davis, who is most well-known these days for marching with a hat in the shape of female genitalia upon her head. State Representative, and former failed Wendy Davis gubernatorial campaign manager, Chris Turner is also enthusiastically working for my opponent. As Democrat Caucus chairman, Turner was responsible last session for organizing their party’s lock-step opposition to legislation I coauthored that is broadly supported across Senate District 10.

Turner and the Democrats opposed our meaningful property tax reforms. They’d rather your tax bills continue to skyrocket year after year.

Turner and the Democrats opposed our ban on gruesome dismemberment abortions of unborn babies. Google it. I cannot even speak to its horrors.

Turner and the Democrats opposed our legislation requiring local jails to honor federal immigration detainers and keep illegal immigrants in state custody. Turner and the Democrats would rather have them released back into our community.

And now he hopes you’ll ignore the issues and send him reinforcements in November.

My opponent’s publicly stated views are out of touch with District 10. She has expressed support for toll roads, Medicaid expansion that will bankrupt our budget and under-fund our schools and roads, and has repeatedly claimed that our public charter schools are covertly re-segregating our community and children. When asked about corporate welfare for politically-connected businesses she said that government should ‘pick the winners’, which is nothing short of blatant cronyism and tips the scales against the taxpayer.

I am not afraid of my record of fighting for property tax relief, the rights of the unborn, and historic state border and immigration reforms. I’ve proven that I am an authentic, independent conservative voice for the taxpayer in Austin while my Democrat opponent has repeatedly bragged about being the ‘Hillary’ candidate in this race.

I look forward to a debate on these out-of-touch, elitist, and quite frankly, unpopular po-sitions. I will be reaching out to my Democrat opponent in the coming days and weeks to define the terms for future debates. She barely defeated a socialist for the Democrat nomination. Now in the general election, will she continue to proudly compare herself to far-left Hillary Clinton or try something new? We’ll find out.”
